The Professional Barbers: There are a variety of professional and personal benefits available to young men and women who choose to enter the barbering profession. Basically, the potential in earnings depends on individual initative. Barbering is one of the oldest professions known to man but it was only within the last 300 years that barbers stopped performing surgical and dental services. Today's barber is a trained specialist who may often own a shop, thus being an independent businessman or businesswoman. A barber contacts customers from all walks of life and people with interest and aptitude will find pleasant, profitable work in the barbering profession. |

Why Be A Barber? Business opportunies are unlimited Assure your financial security Barbers are in demand all year round Be a respected member of your community Age or sex is no barrier |
Questions Most Asked By Potential Students: 1.) Requirements for License: In the majority of states a barber must be licensed by a State Board of Examiners, be at least 16 years old, and a graduate of an unaccredited barber college. 2.) Employment Prospects: In one word, good. There are also excellent chances for advancement by opening up a shop. 3.) Salaries and Employment Conditions: If a man or woman starts training immediately after high school, his or her trade can be established within a few years. Salary potential is what each Barber makes it through offering a variety of services. There are three(3) ways Barber's earn their salary: 1.)Barbers are paid on a commission basis, with or without a guaranteed salary; for example: starting around 60% and up. On this program the owner takes out withholding taxes and pays his share. 2.) A fixed weekly or monthly salary. This is done by some shops, but also shops located in Military Reservations, such as the Naval Academy where some of our students are presently working. 3.)Chair Rental - is often done on a % basis, such as 30% to 35% of your income, or a fixed rental amount of $100.00 per week, and up. I would not advise a student, just out of school to consider this program, because if you don't have a good following it could be a financial disadvantage to you. This usually works well for established Barbers looking to change their location. Remember you will be required to pay your own Federal and State Taxes. 4.)Salary Potential depends on your skills and ability to provide more than just haircutting for male or female patrons. A Barber who provides services such as hairstyling, coloring, hair and scalp treatments, facials, shaves, beard and mustache trimming. All of these services are taught at our school. You will learn a complete course in shop management, how to own and operate your own shop successfully. Footnote: If you enjoy working with people and have a pleasing personality, that is your first step to success. |

The Barbers Work A barber is often thought of as a person who just cuts hair. But with the rapidly increasing interest in total male & female grooming as well as changes in State Laws, many contemporary barbers now provide a wide variety of services for customers. These services include: hairstyling, hair coloring, hair-lighting, shampoos, facials, shaves, perms and trimming beards and mustaches. Through specialized knowledge and an up to date awareness of current trends, a barber can suggest hair styles to suit individual customers. |
