March 7, 2008 New York Hair Show
Avaras Academy of Hair Design is sponsoring a bus trip to the "New York Hair Show" on April 29, 2008. Cost to attend the show including transportation is $95 per person, also includes refreshments and snacks to and from the show. The bus will leave promptly at 7:00 am. Financial assistance may be available through the "Central Scholarship Bureau (CSB)". This is a significant new scholarship opprotunity for private career school students funded by "The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Inc". The Weinberg Grant Program for Private Career Schools has been developed specifically for Maryland residents attending private career schools approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission. There are also interest free student loans available if you are qualified. If you are eligible, help to complete the on-line application will be provided for you after you have met the requirments for acceptance into our program.
CSB website http://www.centralsb.org. Students must complete the on-line application and provide supporting documentation that shows they meet the student and program eligibility requirments as outlined in the application.

Our barber schools main charity is the "Ed Block Foundation" for abused children. Avara's Academy loves helping out the community

This is our Dundalk school having some fun during Halloween.

Simon “Cy” Avara, master barber, owner of two barber schools, and well-known
hair stylist to two generations of prominent public officials, is profiled in
the premiere issue of Razor’s Edge, a new magazine devoted to the beauty and
barbering industries as well as an all-around guide to grooming, fitness and
health. Avara is owner and director of the International Academy of Hair
Design on Pratt St., in Baltimore, and Avara’s Academy of Hair Design in
Dundalk. He was a member and chairman of the Maryland State Board of Barber
Examiners and president of the National Board of Barber Examiners as well as
secretary-treasurer of all union affiliated barber schools in America. He is
president and founder of the Maryland Hair Designer’s Association.
Razor’s Edge, a quarterly life-style magazine, is published in Baltimore

Sam Lamantia, The Founder of the "Ed Block Courage Award", and a
Graduate of "Avara's Academy of Hair Design" will be recognized for
continuous support of the "Ed Block Foundation" for over 20 years.
The Foundation helps the fight for abused children. This will be the 26th
annual dinner and it is in it's 26th year. The award will be given on
Tuesday, March 16th, and is given in 16 NFL cities.
-The International Academy of Hair Design has been selected as Baltimore's
Best Barber School by the City Paper.
The reporter stated that Senior Instructor, Mr.Nate Smith, shows leadership
skills to all trainees and you can get a good haircut for $4.00. |
